Laura is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Creative Arts Therapies (DCAT), teaching Internship/Clinical Supervision I and II, Introduction to Creative Arts Therapies, Performance as Therapy, and Introduction to Expressive Arts Therapy. As DCAT’s Clinical Coordinator, Laura facilitates the network of clinical sites that students partner with for practical experiences during their dance/movement therapy education. Laura is also the Community Engagement Coordinator and supports student partnerships throughout the community which aim to de-stigmatize mental illness and increase awareness of dance/movement therapy. She is also a member of the Departmental Thesis Committee, serving as an advisor to students conducting thesis research. Laura has clinical experience as a dance/movement therapist for an intensive outpatient program and inpatient units at a psychiatric hospital with adults who face chronic mental illness and extensive direct care provision for older adults with memory loss.
Laura serves as an R-DMT panel member of the Dance/Movement Therapy Certification Board. She is a past president and past treasurer of the Illinois Chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association. She also helps coordinate the annual dance concert for department alumni, which funds the Alumni Fellowship student scholarship.
