The Cultural Studies Colloquium (CSC) at Columbia College Chicago is a lecture series featuring local, national, and international contemporary Cultural Studies scholars. The CSC fosters intellectual growth and dialogue within our community by bringing together students, faculty, and speakers to engage in lively debates in the field of Cultural Studies. It also provides Cultural Studies majors with opportunities to become more familiar with contemporary work being done in Cultural Studies, and it opens doors for them to establish personal contacts with practicing scholars in their discipline.
Cultural Studies majors can also take the Colloquium as a credit bearing class up to six times during their studies. Those enrolled complete pre-reading assignments before and analytical papers following each speaker. Previous speakers include Larry Grossberg (UNC Chapel Hill), Paul Smith (George Mason University), Walter Benn Michaels (University of Illinois at Chicago), Shawn Michelle Smith (School of the Art Institute of Chicago), Debra Shaw and Stephen Maddison (University of East London) and Pablo J. Boczkowski (Northwestern University), among many other leading scholars.
All Colloquium lectures are free, open to the public, and take place at 624 S. Michigan Ave., Collins Hall, Room 602.
