Placement

Welcome to New Student Placement & Columbia College Chicago!

New Student Placement works with incoming Columbia students to administer the COMPASS Placements, in order to ensure that students are placed in the appropriate level mathematics, reading, and writing courses. Advisors use the results of the COMPASS placements to help each student register for the right courses.  For example, the writing placement test may reveal whether a student should enroll in a preparatory English course.

Fall 2014

On-Campus Placement

(No appointment necessary)

March 10 - August 22, Monday through Friday starting at 9:30AM and starting at 1PM.

Please Note: There will be no placement during Spring Break, March 24 - 28.

Domestic freshmen and transfer students are encouraged to take their on-campus placements by the end of May, if possible, to be ready for orientation and registration.  Students are welcome to take placement after this date, but should complete placement by August 22nd. However, it is strongly recommended that placements are taken earlier because space is limited.

New students taking Summer 2014 classes are welcome to take placements during March, April, and early May.  Summer 2014 students should complete placement by Monday, May 12th.
