New Transfer Students

As a new transfer student you have three options for placement:

Option A

You must have credit accepted by Columbia College Chicago in college-level English Composition to be waived from the Writing Placement test AND college-level mathematics to be waived from the Math Placement test.  This can include AP Credits.  If you have college credit accepted by Columbia in BOTH English Composition and college level mathematics, you do not need to take any placements.

If you have submitted your college transcripts from another institution or AP Credit, you should have received your Transcript Evaluation Report. If you have not received this, and you want to find out which college credits have been accepted at Columbia, please e-mail your Transcript Evaluator below:

• Students with last names starting with A-D or O-Z, contact Cory Byrd, cbyrd@colum.edu
• Students with last names starting with E-N, contact Michael Kilinski, mkilinski@colum.edu

Option B

If you do not have these, Columbia College Chicago will also accept ACT or SAT scores. 

You must send your ACT or SAT score report via email, mail, or fax to:

ACT Scores:

1. Go to www.actstudent.org
2. Login, password, password again.
3. Select View Your Scores, not Send Your Scores.
4. Student can scan or take a screenshot of their scores with their name and ACT logo appearing clearly.
5. Student should save their scan or screenshot of their scores as a JPEG attachment and email it to: admissions@colum.edu.
6. Student should include their name and OASIS I.D. Number in the email message.
7. It is the student's responsibility to confirm with Admissions that their ACT scores were received by Columbia College Chicago, and that they are converted scores in OASIS.

SAT Scores:

1. Go to www.collegeboard.com and click the purple link: Students.
2. User name, password; click sign-in.
3. Prompt appears: Welcome + student's name.
4. Click on My tests and My Scores.
5. Type password again and scores now appear on screen.
6. Student should scan or take a screenshot of their scores with their name and SAT logo appearing clearly.
7. Student should save their scan or screenshot of their scores as a JPEG attachment and email it to: admissions@colum.edu.
8. It is the student's responsibility to confirm with Admissions that their SAT scores were received by Columbia College Chicago, and that they are converted scores in OASIS.

You must confirm receipt of your scores by calling the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 312.369.7130.  Please allow 3-5 business days for them to receive and process your scores.

Option C

You may take placements on campus if you do not have transferable credits and/or you are not submitting ACT or SAT scores. If you have submitted ACT or SAT scores but would still like to take a placement test to try to place in a higher level course, you are welcome to complete a COMPASS placement.
