Peter Fitzpatrick is an Australian artist / educator working with analogue and digital photo media technologies. He has been involved in developing the teaching and research programs at the Photography and Media Arts Department at the School of Art, Australian National University since 2001. Prior to this Peter held educational posts at several institutions in Australia including the University of Western Sydney and the Australian Centre for Photography. He has taken part in artist residence programs, festivals and education forums in China, Czech Republic, Singapore and New Zealand. He completed a Master of Fine Arts Research at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales in Sydney in 2007. Peter’s practice-led research covers an eccentric range of topics including recent debates about methods of history reconstruction, certain aspects of quantum physics, namely Zero Light technology and Antarctic maritime history. Peter was a co-founder of the Australian National University’s Inkjet Research Facility in 2004. His photography and video works have been exhibited by the Canberra Museum and Art Gallery, Plimsoll Gallery, Australian Centre for Photography, Casula Powerhouse, Centre for Contemporary Photography and a number of galleries in New Zealand including the Adam Art Gallery in Wellington. In 2001 Peter was the recipient of the National Photographic Purchase Award from Albury Regional Art Gallery. He has received numerous State and Federal project grants to support his practice-led research. Peter was invited by the Meet Factory in Prague to be part of their inaugural international artist in residence program in 2008. He was also one of twenty Australian photomedia artists to officially represent Australia in China at the 2010 Pingyao International Photography festival.
