Andrew Whatley
Andrew Whatley is the Assistant Dean for Faculty Advising
and LAS Initiatives in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Columbia
College Chicago, and he is the Associate Director of the Honors Program.
Whatley joined Columbia College Chicago in 2001 as
Administrative Assistant to the Provost and has since served as an Academic
Program Manager and a Director of Academic Initiatives prior to becoming
Assistant Dean in 2011. As Assistant Dean, Andrew oversees faculty advising
within the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, assists Associate Dean Neil
Pagano in administering the Honors Program, and coordinates recruitment for the
prestigious Teach for America program, among other projects.
In his previous positions, Whatley’s projects included
helping craft a college-wide policy on faculty rank and promotion, co-coordinating
the 2009 meeting of SGC International, and managing the college’s acquisition
of the Center for American Places—now Columbia College Chicago Press.
When not at Columbia, Whatley tries to remain active in
Chicago’s vibrant off-loop theatre scene. Since moving to Chicago in 1995, he
has served as an actor, director, or dramaturge in more than thirty theatrical
productions on Chicago stages with companies such as The Hypocrites and
Eclipse.
Whatley holds a BFA in Acting from Auburn University in
Auburn, Alabama, and an MA in Theatre History, Literature, and Criticism from
Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
