Columbia College Chicago’s Journalism, MA program focuses on public affairs reporting and combines an essential academic base in political science with first-hand reporting. The curriculum places emphasis on issues central to civic life—education, housing, welfare, criminal justice, labor, politics and the electoral process, science, economics, and the arts. This program can be completed in three consecutive semesters of full-time study.

Studying in a Large Media Market

Located in Chicago’s thriving South Loop neighborhood, students have access to major government, media, and cultural institutions, and work closely with the city’s news professionals at national and local news outlets through course assignments and internships.  This hands-on experience provides graduates of the program with the skills and contacts necessary to succeed pursuing careers in journalism, public affairs management, new media entrepreneurship, editing, and publishing.
