Our Veterans' Educational Benefits Coordinator (VETCOORD) is available to both veterans and the dependents of disabled veterans who are interested in attending Columbia College Chicago as Undergraduates or Graduates, or who are degree-seeking students at other schools and wish to take classes at Columbia.
The VETCOORD can help vets and dependents:
- Apply for and receive their G.I. Bill educational benefits and understand how those benefits are best used at Columbia
- Assist in the evaluation of military training courses and experience for credit toward graduation
- Give general college application and admission advice
- Help students navigate and understand "military-speak" as it applies to their educational benefits
- Assist with the many other non-educational benefits that may need explanation
Yellow Ribbon
Columbia College Chicago is a Yellow Ribbon program participant. Right now that means an additional $4000 a school year from Columbia ($2000), and the VA ($2000) added to your Post-9/11 GI Bill if you are 100% eligible for that benefit. The Yellow Ribbon amount is subject to change
IMPORTANT NOTE: Because we are a private college, Columbia students are only eligible for Federal G.I. BILL benefits, and not Illinois state veterans' benefits.
Remember, sometimes the "out-processing" in any particular military command is not as comprehensive as it could be and there are often changes in "the drill" after a veteran has been out for a while. Therefore, if you believe you are eligible for veterans’ benefits we recommend that you contact the VETCOORD as early as possible in the application process.
