Joan and Irving Harris Scholar Award
for incoming and continuing undergraduate students
The Joan and Irving Harris Scholar Award was established to recognize outstanding intended and declared Early Childhood Education majors with a concentration in Teacher Certification.

The Joan and Irving Harris Scholar Award is open to:
- Continuing students who are full-time Early Childhood Education majors with a concentration in Teacher Certification
- Incoming students with an intended major in Early Childhood Education with a concentration in Teacher Certification. Priority consideration is given to students who have a completed Admissions application, including supporting documents, received by the Undergraduate Admissions Office by February 1, 2012
- Students who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
- Students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents
Award based on:
Renewable award amount:
- Up to $8,000 (half awarded in Fall 2012 and half awarded in Spring 2013)
Notification of the award:
- Recipients will be notified by the scholarship committee by mail by March 31, 2012. We regret that we are unable to give information regarding the committee's decisions over the telephone or by email.
No separate application is required.
- Continuing students will be nominated by faculty.
- All new students are automatically considered for the award based on a completed Undergraduate Admissions file.
- The Joan and Irving Harris Award is automatically renewable for up to four consecutive years provided the recipient:
- is enrolled full-time each semester a Early Childhood major with a concentration in Teacher Certification
- maintains a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average
- does not interrupt enrollment
- Award amount ranges up to $8,000 per academic year, awarded half in Fall and half in Spring
- The Achievement Award is applied toward tuition
- Award may not be used toward independent study abroad programs
- The rules governing other sources of financial aid (federal, state, institutional and other grants, gifts, or loans) will apply
