Pougialis Fine Art Award

for continuing undergraduate students

The Pougialis Fine Art Award is a yearly competition that offers promising Fine Art students an opportunity to study as an apprentice with a senior artist of national and international standing for one semester, a cash award, and an exhibition in the A+D Gallery. Scholarship applicants are expected to produce and later install creative work for the competition.

Deadline to Apply: March 12, 2012

Please note: This deadline is for the submission of paperwork stating students' intent to participate in the competition which takes place on April 26, 2012.


The Pougialis Fine Art Award is open to:
  • Students enrolled as full-time Fine Art Majors with sophomore status or higher including post baccalaureate status (Transfer students must have completed 12 credit hours at Columbia at the time of application)
  • Students who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • Students who are able to submit creative work in Fine Art that demonstrates strong accomplishment, talent, and ability
  • International students may apply
  • Students graduating in Spring 2012 are not eligible to apply

Award based on:
  • Academic achievement
  • Demonstration of talent, ability, and/or accomplishment in Fine Art

Award amounts:
  • First Place: $2,000 plus a tuition credit equivalent to 6 semester hours in Fall 2012, and a semester-long internship with a leading Chicago based artist
  • Second Place: $1,500
  • In addition, both awardees will have an exhibition at the Averill and Bernard Leviton A+D Gallery in Spring 2013
