Students in the directing program, in concert with actors, designers, and stage managers, mount one act and full-length plays that reflect the breadth of work in theatre today -- contemporary, classical and devised work. This is the place to see the work of tomorrow's off-loop and storefront theatres.
Selected student and faculty playwrights are challenged with the assignment of writing a 10-minute play overnight. Selected student and faculty directors and actors are charged with fully staging and rehearsing the plays the following day and six new ten minute plays are produced for the viewing public within 24 hours. A great way to end and celebrate the semester and calendar year! December 16, 2011, Classic Theatre, 8:00pm
Staged readings provide a venue for new work created by student playwriting majors and Theatre Department faculty.
The Theatre Department works with the Office of Community Arts Partnerships (OCAP) to develop programming and partnerships with community-based organizations. Through OCAP's Urban Mission program, we have placed students and faculty in creative collaborations, productions, teaching and service learning initiatives that directly engage the Theatre Department in the cultural life of the City of Chicago.
