Creative Writing Open House: Tuesday, October 4

You’re invited! The Creative Writing Department’s Graduate Open House is designed to introduce you to Columbia’s Creative Writing MFA Programs. You’ll learn about life as an MFA candidate and meet our faculty, alumni and students—all while experiencing the dynamic Creative Writing Reading Series featuring special guests Sarah Gorham and Vu Tran. We hope you’ll join us on Tuesday, October 4, at 4 p.m.

Fiction, MFA


The Master of Fine Arts in Fiction program combines an emphasis on writing and craft with the study of literature and the form and theory of fiction. In an environment supportive of aesthetic and pedagogical diversity, you’ll gain a broad sense of the genre and its many forms and an awareness of fiction in the present landscape—and you’ll begin building your community of writers and artists who will help you succeed.

Nonfiction, MFA


In the Master of Fine Arts in Nonfiction program, you’ll balance a study of literature and the form and theory of nonfiction. With an emphasis on essays and narratives, as well as personal, lyric, experimental, critical and hybrid texts, you’ll develop an understanding of the shifting landscape of nonfiction through new media applications and gain a vivid awareness of its place in the current writing world.

Poetry, MFA


In the Master of Fine Arts in Poetry program, you’ll see and be seen: You’ll have a front-row seat to visiting poets and some of the top names in poetry, and you’ll be in front of top-notch faculty who will work with you one-on-one to hone your writing skills in an open-minded culture that encourages you to take risks as you hone your craft. Along the way, you’ll find your own aesthetic and begin building your community of writers and artists who will help you succeed.
