Interdisciplinary skills are now a defining characteristic of contemporary art practice and a priority for artists who want to shape the future.
As an artist, you may want to deepen your skills to broaden artistic or career horizons. Columbia believes that interdisciplinary skills are now a defining characteristic of contemporary art practice and a priority for artists who want to shape the future. Expand your skills and broaden your horizons with one of three graduate degrees: the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts, the Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts & Media, and the Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Book & Paper Arts.
Each degree allows you to cross-train between the three programs. At the Center for Book & Paper Arts, you can study hand papermaking and bookbinding. You might also work in sound, movement, drama, visual art and creative writing––or use cutting-edge technologies to cultivate a dialogue between mediums.
The MA Intensive Summer is a low-residency program offering the same innovative curriculum as the current one-year MA degree, but scheduled across two consecutive summer sessions. The vigorous pace of the nine-week summer sessions is balanced with independent art practice and research under the guidance of Interdisciplinary Arts faculty in the interim year. You’ll network, collaborate with a cohort of classmates from around the country and world, and create a contemporary interdisciplinary body of work.
We’re happy you’re thinking of joining our creative community. We work hard to make our application process as simple and fast as possible, but should you run into any concerns, we're here to help at any time.
