Interdisciplinary Arts students challenge traditional forms of art-making, using a range of traditional and modern tools to create radically new contemporary art.
Columbia's Interdisciplinary Arts graduate program has been the worldwide leader in interdisciplinary arts study for 35 years. Highly regarded faculty of artists, a continuum of available technologies and matchless facilities—including a papermaker's garden and experimental lab spaces—distinguish the program and make it a rich source of rare and inventive installations.
The Interdisciplinary Arts Department offers a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts, a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts & Media, and a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Book & Paper Arts. Through intellectual rigor, cross-collaboration among disciplines and advanced studio practice, you'll turn ideas into fully realized and complex creations, and enter into the professional world of contemporary art.
The MA Intensive Summer is a low-residency program offering the same innovative curriculum as the current one-year MA degree, but scheduled across two consecutive summer sessions. The vigorous pace of the nine-week summer sessions is balanced with independent art practice and research under the guidance of Interdisciplinary Arts faculty in the interim year. You’ll network, collaborate with a cohort of classmates from around the country and world, and create a contemporary interdisciplinary body of work.
