Audience and Community Engagement

The Dance Center’s Audience and Community Engagement program works with a variety of partners to increase understanding of and appreciation for contemporary dance and how it contributes to contemporary life. Conversations with the artists follow most Thursday performances, and some programs feature pre-performance talks with artists and Dance Center personnel and lecturers.

Workshops, Lectures and Special Events

The Dance Center and its community partners schedule special public programs, including master classes, lecture/demonstrations and panel discussions, featuring our season artists. Guest artists also teach numerous classes for Dance Center students during their residencies.

Citywide Partnerships

The Dance Center has developed partnerships with the Chicago Park District, Chicago Public Schools, the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, Red Clay Dance, Chicago Dancemakers Forum, Links Hall, Global Girls, Striding Lion Performance Group and other institutions to provide access to dance activities for multiple constituencies and populations with in-school classes, professional development workshops for educators and service providers and community-based workshops. Through our Audience and Community Engagement program, we offer deeply discounted and complimentary performance tickets to partner organizations for constituents who are economically disadvantaged.
