The Afro-Latin@ Two-Week Summer Dance Intensive explores the rich relationship between Africanist and Latin@ aesthetics.  The intensive represents  The Dance Center’s ongoing efforts towardd integrating Afro-Latin@ aesthetics into the dance curriculum. Students currently training and performing Afro-Latin@ dance styles off campus will now have the opportunity to do so at The Dance Center in downtown Chicago.

Workshops & Classes

in Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, Capoeira, Bomba y Plena, Salsa, and, Samba
Taught by artists, scholars and renowned Dance Center faculty
Learn the Dances of The Orishas and popular vernacular dance forms!
Classes available for college credit and non-credit (community enrollment)


one-day symposium with special guest scholars and artists


by local and international guest artists including performance opportunities for participants

Performances by local and international special guest artists
Four-Day Performance Workshop led by Blanca Aviles & Tosha Alston
