Faculty Center, 600 S. Michigan Ave., 8th floor

Jane Alexandroff (1928-1996) was the wife of Mirron “Mike” Alexandroff, who served as Columbia College president from 1961-1992. She was Columbia’s only other full-time employee from 1955-1962, serving in all administrative capacities.

Jane was a central figure in Columbia College’s emergence as an important new voice in higher education in the 1960s. She helped create a home and family for the diverse group of students and teachers who came to Columbia College to help build a better world. Jane was active in the civil rights, women’s rights, anti-war and counter culture movements, which coalesced at Columbia College during the period. She also served as hostess and cook for all major parties for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees, and knew everyone by name.
