Manifest 2014: Flight | May 16, 2014
Our graduates have the ability to fly!
They gather their wings in rapid movement and begin to ascend in a brilliant display of power and beauty. At Manifest, we watch them soar through space as their bodies of work inspire us with their intellect, vision and substance. At dusk, they assemble as a huge flock against the backdrop of the setting sun. In disciplined formation, they etch the sky with their swoops and swirls.
We smile in delight and awe... They’re ready and we are proud...
What’s new for Manifest 2014?
Every year, thousands of students, faculty, and alumni join together to plan and execute one of the most sacred events that Columbia hosts. From the Great Convergence, to the Headliners, to over 100 hundred student showcases, the Columbia community works together every year to put on an even bigger, better Manifest that empowers the atmosphere in the streets of Chicago. Check out a few new additions and features that are going to make this year’s Manifest the best one yet!
Masters of Flight: Columbia has a student population of nearly 11,000 students, nearly 500 of the 11,000 are grad students. In two additional years of study, these grad students have worked tirelessly to create amazing works of art that will be showcased for the public to admire in an event the day before Manifest titled “Masters of Flight”. Work will be showcased Thursday, May 15th from 4:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Taste of Convergence: The Great Convergence kicks off the day of art and entertainment every year. What better way to keep the excitement going than by lining Wabash with several delicious food trucks, quirky entertainment, and live music? Food trucks from all over the city of Chicago will bring the Manifest attendees their most mouth watering cuisine and while you eat, you can jam out to some beats from our Club DJ Practicum class, and be wowed by the performances of your fellow Columbians.
Frequency TV: For all things Manifest, Frequency has got you covered! Check out their festival spotlight features on tvs all over campus and right here on the Manifest website.
Tic Toc Food Spot
In addition to their great street performances, this year TicToc will present performance art centered around food in several of the buildings that are hosting receptions. This exciting new addition to Manifest will host creative individuals that will engulf your senses as they make food creations right before your eyes. Enjoy watching artwork being made, and enjoy tasting the delicious creations afterwards. Make sure that you don’t miss out on these captivating artists in the lobbies of six on-campus buildings the day of Manifest!
