Kate Sazonova

Film and TV Directing (MFA)

What made you choose Columbia?

I chose Columbia because of the instructors, the technical base, the possibilities for collaboration within and outside the school and because Chicago has a huge art scene.

What do you plan on studying during your time here?

Film and TV Directing (MFA)

What are your career goals at this time?

After graduation, I want to work as a film director in a variety of projects of different sizes, across the genres and around the world. I also want to establish my own socially responsible production company that will produce educational content among others.

What do you most look forward to about learning and creating in Chicago?

I want to collaborate with other creatives and achieve the synergy effect in the projects, develop more stories, advance my technical skills, and learn to direct a team.

How do you see your artistic practice engaging with contemporary events?

I'm interested in environmental and animal protection, and social causes. I’d like to explore those topics in my projects. My documentary short on plastic pollution has been to more than 10 international film festivals.
