Dance BA '23

“The most surprising thing I’ve learned at Columbia is the cultural diversity through the dance program,” says recent Dance graduate Jasmyne Strong. “It brings so many people with different backgrounds together to study many different styles of dance, so there are more opportunities to share ideas and collaborate with all of my peers.”

What would you say has been the most surprising thing you learned at Columbia?

The most surprising thing I’ve learned at Columbia is the cultural diversity through the dance program. It brings so many people with different backgrounds together to study many different styles of dance, so there are more opportunities to share ideas and collaborate with all of my peers.

What individuals or programs at Columbia were helpful to you in reaching your goal of graduating?

My Academic Advisor, Stephanie Barnes, was very helpful in terms of making sure I was always on track for classes. In addition, all the Dance Department faculty have helped me find resources that I now use to figure out my next steps and plans after graduating college.

What are your plans for after graduation?

After graduation, I will audition for several dance companies and talent agencies, eventually establish my own dance studio, and teach classes using the strategies and materials I learned from my professors here at Columbia.

If you were going to sum up your experience at Columbia in one sentence, what would you say?

My college experience at Columbia was fun and the years went by so fast, but it was amazing!
