Marin Tillman

Music Business BA '23

"My time at Columbia has helped me best understand myself and redefine and shape my passion into something that works for both me and the music industry," says recent Music Business graduate Marin Tillman.

What would you say has been the most surprising thing you learned at Columbia?

The most surprising thing I have learned at Columbia is that we all have the potential to be anything and everything we dream of being and that life is what you make of it. Columbia's incredible programs have shown me that when I genuinely believe in myself and my work, I see the desired results. My time at Columbia has helped me best understand myself and redefine and shape my passion into something that works for both me and the music industry.

What individuals or programs at Columbia were helpful to you in reaching your goal of graduating?

I want to give a special thanks to the entire Music Business program. I am so grateful for the opportunities provided by the incredible faculty and programs that have led me to the best version of myself. I recommend taking the Music Industry Immersion class in your senior year. The course is fast-paced and set around real-life scenarios, making it perfect for preparing for life following graduation. I want to specifically thank the guidance of Jerry Brindisi, Alexander Fruchter, Justin Sinkovich, Monique Maye, and Loren Wells.

What are your plans for after graduation?

While I am still feeling out my options, I would love to work for a record label or music management company in a role that blends both business and creativity. I take pride in my ability to take an idea, find the strengths and weaknesses, set goals, and then plan and execute them for brilliant artist or business development strategies.

If you were going to sum up your experience at Columbia in one sentence, what would you say?

Completing my undergraduate degree at Columbia College Chicago has made me a stronger, brighter, and more assertive professional.
